When you decide that it’s important to do exercise, choose something that you like doing. You also need to know what you hate doing. Whether you want to pay membership fees, or need to buy equipment.
If you enjoy your exercise routine the more likely you are to stick with it. For example, if you don’t like jogging, you aren’t going to get up at 6 AM, especially if it is raining and go running.
One of the best exercises to start with is walking. Why? For a start it suits all levels of fitness. Anyone can start walking, it’s normally the duration and intensity that is different. Walking can also be a social event, you can find a training partner or join a walking group. Cost of starting is very little too. You just need a good pair of waling shoes or boots.
When you start your exercise you start at an intensity level that suits your current fitness level and build it over a period of weeks, which is essential to maintaining longevity of your exercise program. If you start off too hard, you are less likely to carry on with your exercise program and could also injure yourself which will require time off to get over.
If your fitness level is low, start off by walking for 10 minutes each day. Then increase it by 5 minutes every 2 weeks. Change you walking routes every few days, mix it up with different walking friends.
But, what if walking isn’t your thing, then maybe you should try a fitness center or gym. There are loads of variety at these centers from different machines and classes. There are also trainers on hand who can also answer
Before joining any fitness center, see if they have a trial period or a taster session. That way you can see how they treat their members. You can also check out the equipment to make sure that they are well maintained.
If the idea of being stuck inside a fitness center does not suite you and you would rather be outside. Why not look into golf or tennis. Both are brilliant social activities, where you can meet new friends. If you want something less stressful on your body why not look at practicing yoga, tai chi or pilates.
What ever you choose make sure that you enjoy it, that way it will become more a regular occurrence in your daily life and improve you general fitness level.
